Negli ultimi anni la figura dell’OSS è diventata sempre più familiare per il grande pubblico. L’invecchiamento della popolazione e la comparsa di questi addetti in ospedali e case di cura ha reso sempre più diffusa questa professione. Inoltre, per molti rappresenta un’ottima opportunità di impiego, o re-impiego, in caso di disoccupazione o perdita del lavoro.

L’o.s.s., acronimo per operatore socio sanitario, è fondamentalmente una figura professionale che supporta il personale infermieristico nell’assistenza di primo livello ai pazienti, siano essi anziani, disabili, o degenti.

Ma cosa fa nel concreto un o.s.s.? Qual è il suo stipendio medio, e che requisiti servono per diventare o.s.s.?

Di seguito vedremo, punto per punto, chi è l’o.s.s., quanto guadagna e come diventare operatore socio sanitario.

1. Quali sono le mansioni dell’OSS

I compiti di un o.s.s. possono essere suddivisi in due categorie:

Da una parte, ci sono le mansioni più prettamente igieniche e sanitarie.

L’operatore supporta i pazienti totalmente o parzialmente non autosufficienti nello svolgimento di alcune operazioni quotidiane. Compito dell’o.s.s. è quindi assistere il paziente nella pulizia personale, aiutandolo se necessario a vestirsi, mangiare, deambulare.

Nel caso di assistenza domiciliare, può dover svolgere attività di aiuto nelle faccende domestiche di base e nelle pulizie. Nel caso di assistiti costretti a letto o non deambulanti, l’o.s.s. si occupa dell’igiene del paziente, delle operazioni necessarie a evitare le piaghe da decubito, dell’alimentazione.

L’OSS si occupa anche della risistemazione, sanificazione e disinfestazione degli ambienti ove l’assistito trascorre il proprio tempo e dei vari strumenti adoperati su di esso.

Svolge le proprie attività in collaborazione con l’equipe medica attenendosi ad eventuali direttive fornitegli da professionisti quali medici o infermieri.

Inoltre, questo tipo di professione viene svolta in diversi tipi di ambiente come ad esempio ospedali ma anche strutture di tipo socio-assistenziali, residenziali e domiciliari sia di tipo privato che pubblico.

Oltre al lato igienico-sanitario, l’o.s.s. ha anche compiti volti alla socializzazione dei pazienti. Nella pratica, ciò si traduce in animazione e iniziative volte a favorire la socializzazione dei pazienti.

Per quanto possa sembrare una professione estremamente pratica, e sotto alcuni punti di vista lo è, l’o.s.s. è una figura a cui è richiesta anche una certa sensibilità, necessaria a intercettare e comprendere le necessità dei pazienti, sia quelle primarie (igiene personale, alimentazione) che quelle relative alla socialità.

2. Quanto guadagna un OSS

La busta paga di un o.s.s. può variare sensibilmente, a seconda del datore di lavoro e del tipo di contratto. In linea di massima, la retribuzione è leggermente più alta nelle strutture pubbliche rispetto quelle private.

Volendo fare una media, la maggior parte degli operatori sanitari guadagna intorno ai 1.200 € al mese. Una minoranza percepisce una cifra inferiore, altri una superiore.

In generale, nel settore pubblico la base di partenza è di 1.500 € lordi al mese, a cui si aggiungono eventuali altre voci, in base agli accordi territoriali (indennità notturna, per turno di lavoro festivo, indennità di reperibilità, ecc.).

Una persona che inizia la sua attività come o.s.s. nel pubblico può arrivare a uno stipendio base lordo di € 1.700.

Nel privato la base è più bassa, attestandosi su 1400 € lordi al mese. Lo stesso discorso vale per le cooperative e le agenzie interinali.

Sintetizzando, si va da un minimo di € 700-800 ad oltre € 1.700 al mese netti, in base all’esperienza, alle ore di lavoro e al datore di lavoro.

3. Come diventare OSS

Per diventare o.s.s. si deve frequentare un apposito corso di formazione, a cui si accede se si rispettano alcuni requisiti.

Il primo è aver compiuto 18 anni, o essere in possesso della qualifica professionale se si è minorenni. Il secondo è aver completato gli studi almeno fino alla terza media.

I corsi vengono organizzati dalle regioni e dalle provincie (autonome), secondo quanto stabilito dall’Accordo Stato-Regioni del 22 febbraio 2001. Infatti i corsi vengono avviati annualmente a seconda del fabbisogno numerico di nuovo personale o.s.s.

Sebbene i corsi siano organizzati in genere da enti privati accreditati presso le regioni, il percorso formativo o.s.s ha alcune caratteristiche che sono comuni per tutti.

La prima è che il corso dura al massimo 18 mesi, per un totale di 1000 ore di insegnamento (550 di tirocinio e il resto in aula). Gli insegnamenti vengono impartiti in moduli, suddivisi tra materie di base e di indirizzo.

I principali ambiti di insegnamento sono igienico-sanitario, psico-sociale, socio-culturale, tecnico-operativo. Il tirocinio viene svolto in strutture sanitarie sia pubbliche che private, che prevedono al loro interno la presenza di uno o più o.s.s.

La frequenza è obbligatoria per almeno il 90% delle ore totali del monte ore.

Al termine del corso, si sostiene un esame che prevede una parte teorica e una pratica. In caso di esito positivo, si consegue un attestato di qualifica di primo livello di o.s.s., riconosciuto su tutto il territorio nazionale.

L’attestato permette di trovare lavoro presso strutture sanitarie e socio-assistenziali pubbliche, private e convenzionate, oltre che presso centri diurni, case famiglia, comunità di recupero.
